A new report has revealed some of the most bizarre and ridiculous reasons given by airlines for delayed flights or cancellations. Some reasons for flights delays included: insects and mouse infestations, missing crew members and cutlery gone AWOL.
An example of some of these strange incidents include the Ryanair flight FR3475 from Malta to Eindhoven being delayed in July 2016 because of ‘insects on the plane.’ It is not known how many insects there were on the plane, or what type they were or how the insect problem happened to occur in the first place, but one can speculate that the insect infestation may have been caused by a lack of hygiene and cleanliness.
In August of 2015, the EasyJet flight U28652 from Ibiza to Gatwick was held up because of a ‘weird smell.’
The Mirror, also reported other strange occurrences:
But, perhaps the strangest excuse from the budget airline came in June, when passengers travelling from Belfast to Amsterdam were delayed because of a ‘missing crew member’.
History does not recount whether the crew member was ever found.
Adeline Noorderhaven, UK Manager of EUclaim said: “While some of the reasons for delayed flights are undeniably comical, we know it can be hard to see the funny side if it’s your flight that’s delayed.
“Waiting over three hours because there’s a mouse loose on the plane can be unnerving as well as frustrating!”
In 2011, flight SK945 from Stockholm to Chicago was delayed by Scandinavian Airlines after crew spotted a mouse in the cabin.
